Printing a report with multiple columns and a page wide header

If you wish to have a multi-column report, but to display either a page/report header that spans the width of the page, or else to have column headings that appear for each column, then you must change the layout of the report slightly.

Make the overall width of the Report to that of the paper width (accounting for the left and right margins). Ensure that the controls that are to appear in each column are to the left of the report, and add a Label to the Report Header that spans the entire width of the report. In this label, type the header for the report.

Then select File|Page Setup, and choose the third tab, 'Columns'. Remove the tick from the check box marked 'Same as Detail', and set the Column Size plus the Column Spacing to a value less than the report width, and the Number of Columns to the Report Width divided by the Column Size plus Column Spacing. For example, if the width of your report, excluding margins, was 18cm, then you could have three columns, each having a width of 5.5cm with a space between columns of 0.5cm. If you also wish for the column headers to be repeated for each column, then you will need to add extra labels in the Page or Group Header in the appropriate places. In the above example, if the first label in the page header has a left position of 0.05cm, then the header for the second column should be placed with a left position of (5.5cm+0.5cm+0.05cm) i.e. 5.55cm, and the other headers moved along appropriately.
